Wind

Wind is a natural phenomenon causing from the temperature differences, atmospheric pressure and the earth rotation force. These factors create the wind speed and power. It is accepted that wind is a form of energy within itself, which sometimes its severe force may damage the residences, fall down the tree, blow out the things, etc. Presently, people give significances to wind energy for more utilisations due to its abundant, clean, environmental friendly, non-depleted and free energy resource.

Wind Turbine Technologies

Wind turbine is a mechanical machinery that converts kinetic energy from wind movement to mechanical energy for a direct utilisation, for ex: grinding the grains, water pumping, or power generation at the present. Wind turbine has been developed for applications since the Egyptian era and continuously pursued up to nowadays. Wind turbine design is based on kinetic (motion) energy of wind and engineering principles to get the maximum efficiency, energy and power.

Wind Turbine Types

Wind turbines are classified by features into 2 types, i.e.
1. Vertical Axis Turbine (VAWT) a type of turbine with rotor and blades fitted vertically with a horizontal wind movement
2. Horizontal Axis Turbine (HAWT) a type of turbine with a rotor fitted parallel to a horizontal wind movement and having blades fitted vertically with wind force.

Wind Turbine Assembly

1. Wind Turbine for Water Pumping: a turbine that converts the kinetic energy of wind movement to mechanical energy for pumping the water from the lowland to highland for agricultural use, saltern, drinking and consumption. There are 2 types in use, i.e. Reciprocating and waterwheel
2. Wind Turbine for Power Generation: a turbine that converts kinetic energy to mechanical energy for power generation. The current applications are Small Wind Turbine and Large Wind Turbine.--
